9:29 pm - THING THE FIRST: CREATIVE DRIVE

I saw a link to an interview with Alan Moore over at Neil Gaiman's blog, and i spent most of last night reading it and being amazed. It's a fantastic read which illuminates a couple things that i've been thinking about:
1) there is an impossible project going on, the attempt to fill the world with psychological content. It's been going on forever and can't ever be near completion.
2) everyone who participates is somehow better than people who choose not to, and they are afforded special privilege. The act of creation is magic itself, and it almost doesn't matter what you create, as long as you adhere to the challenge of filling up the hungry universe.
I think that in light of this i am going to get to work studying programming and design in a seriously interested way. I want to make games. I don't know if i can make GOOD games, but for one thing that's almost secondary to the goal of just making stuff and for another, if no-talent idiots like cactus, people who have never put out a single worthwhile game in their entire lives, can be called geniuses and be the darlings of the indie game world then by god, someone who is actually a little smart like myself can't do that badly.
Whether i will maintain my level of intellectual curiosity to the point that i actually get anything playable released, whether i can count on any help from people in this endeavour, and whether i actually have it in me to learn how to program properly, something i basically hate even thinking about -- all this remains to be resolved. But even so, i want to do something, even if it's not wonderful.

There are an absolutely lot of things. I need to spend some time with each, sit them down, and really work on figuring out what to do about each of them, on a case-by-case basis.

Last night, i dreamed that i checked my account balance online and it was overdrawn by $50. I was pretty fucking upset about this, as i remembered having $150 in there not a day before, so i went through my transaction history and found two entries, minutes apart, that both debited my account for $100. They were both for the same thing: "attacked by THIEF RAT." Then i remembered how i had been exploring the ruins with my friends, and a thief rat hit me twice, and i guess they must take a hundred bucks out of your bank account every time they do that. I called up my friends and yelled at them for not keeping the thief rats off me and insisted we go back to kill them so i could get back the money before i had to pay an overdraft charge.

i am the worst. i can't get any work done lately and i can't stop ruining things with my close friends and relations because i am the biggest toolbox in the world.
i need to move to san francisco so i can get a head start right away on being anonymous, ugly, and alone.
